I have been using an RDG QCTP for a few years now and am running out of patience. The tool holders will no longer stay locked in place and they are way too fiddly getting them in to begin with.

In my search for a new QCTP I have come across the Aloris MXA which would appear to suit the Myford Super 7 quite nicely but there seems to be almost no user comments anywhere on the MXA. They also have an MXA-AL made out of aluminum for almost half the price. (Aloris does not appear to make an OXA ).

I also see that Myford is showing a QCTP on their web site. My understanding is the they are owned by RDG so I'm a bit gun shy about ordering one of these as much as I would like to. I'm happy to pay more for quality products.

Any comments, experience good or bad, or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

I fitted one of the Chinese made 250-111 QCTP. It took a few alterations to get the tool height. The reason for the larger than 250-000 was because I already had a lot of HSS cutters that were 13mm square. Note I had to take 3mm from the top of the compound. Also had to take 4mm from bottom of the holders to get the centre height. Glad I did it & the 13mm cutters are very rigid.

          Some pictures.

            David,

Have you looked at Arc's offering **LINK**

I have the "000" on my small lathe (SC4) and "222" on my Chester Crusader.

            Very good QCTP!

Steve Jordan did some YT videos on getting rid of the topslide and using a larger Aloris style QCTP.

Pull in type? Pull the cam bolt out check the width of the puller across the face it should be dead flat, any daylight means the ears are bent and need straightening or remaking. Don't drop the spring smiley

Thank you all so much for your input. I have never dealt with Arc before. But after checking over their web site, I think they may just tick all of the boxes for me. The Model 000 mentioned by Jim is sized right for my needs. Plus, they have an adapter kit specifically for the Myford so no additional machining needed. I think I will send them my order in the next day or two.

                  Thanks all,

Ive been using an OXA QCTP on my Mini Lathe for several years now. Apart from the fact that it all seems to function pretty much as you would expect, the toolholders are readily available, and a piece of cake to make anyway….

I have sourced toolholders from at least 4 suppliers and they all work, so that's 5 suppliers including me!! This contrasts fairly well with some other QCTP. The only thing I do is to Loctite the screw for the height adjusting device in place in the body of the holder.

                    Best of luck

                    cheers

                    Bill

After all of that thoughtful advice, I thought a followup would be in order.

I ordered the Arceuro Model 000 QCTP, the Myford mod kit, and several tool holders. The first point of interest was that getting a shipment from the UK to Canada was a matter of a couple of days vs shipments from the USA taking several weeks these days.

Certainly the Arceuro parts are far above the RDG equivalents that I have been using. Although certainly not of Aloris quality, they are no where near Aloris prices. Dollar for dollar, for my hobby purposes, they will do quite nicely. There are / were 3 minor issues:

The base of the Myford mod kit post that I also bought was too thick. As received, it was .235" thick and the original Myford was .180". I cut it down to .195" and it fit fine. Arceuro does have a great video on its installation which was much appreciated.

The tool holder locking mechanism is a bit rough in its action – it's as if there were a bit of sand in the gears. I'm hoping that will clear itself with time. If not, it'll have to come apart and get fixed.

The chrome lever that secures the tool post to the cross slide lands right over top of the tool holder when fully locked down so installation and removal of the tool holder is impossible. I added a washer and that made it lock sooner and out of the way. I will probably just cut the length down a tiny bit which should cure that.

The bottom line is that I'm very happy with the Arc Euro QCTP and would recommend it to anyone who is having a hard time living with whatever they are currently using.
