A newbie to the hobby

Evening all

I'm Ben, 33 and new to model engineering. A marine engineer by trade and I have a specific interest in narrow gauge locomotives – 16mm scale butane fired live steam and 5"/ 7.25" coal fired locos. I'm a sucker for a Bagnall or Large Quarry Hunslet. My other interest is road steam, particularly 4" traction engines with a view to one day owning one.

Currently, apart from the 16mm scale stuff, this is just an interest, but I am now looking to join my local club, Southampton Model Engineers and hopefully embark on purchasing a 5" Sweet Pea within the next few months.

Looking forward to using this forum and reading the mag. From what I have read so far, it seems spot on. Anyway, that's me.

Rod, great chatting to you a couple of weeks ago. A friend put me onto the Southampton club so looking to join there because of that, and it's a bit closer. Hopefully I'll be up to one of your open days for a run when I get a loco.
