I have completed the cylinder drain cocks and operating lever. Has anybody got a photo of the route for the operating cable as the drawings and instruction book is vague to say the least. It looks like a hole will be required in the water pump cross member. Is a Bowden cable or a solid rod in a brass tube the way to go ?
It is along time since I looked under our speedy but I think we used a length of piano wire in brass tube approx. 20swg this was clipped to the axle box keep bolts using folded metal "P" clips. Bowden cable was used on an other engine but the plastic coating melted past the ash pan and you can not leave much inner exposed as it has to push and pull.I hope this helps.
Hi Peter, I didn't like the idea of Bowden cable, so have used solid stainless rod (4BA diameter) running in brass bearers. The rod runs along the LHS of the chassis, just inside the axle box bearings. Inside the cab, I have a simple lever Fwd and Back to open/shut the drains. The engine is not finished yet, but I can't see a problem with this arrangement at the moment.
