Hi guys, seriously lookig to build this engine. I have the plans as well as access to the book. Is it just a case of doubling up the sizes ? Are there any particular problems or mods req'd ? Any comments gratefully received. Bob

In 2" things can start to get a bit chunky if you just double up as the 1" was made to the nearest practical fractional size so a bit of slimming down is worth while. I would also suggest you have a separate water pump on teh hornplate rather than the boiler pad and if you intend rallying the engine make provision for an injector, your boiler inspector is likely to want two methods of filling anyway.

For a bit of inspiration this is what can be done with a 2" minnie.

To be fair to Kevin who made that engien the photo does not show that its only the sides of the gears that are painted, though I may have gone for black on the ones outside the hornplates. It was common practice on full size to paint the inside of the horns red together with the gears, crank and eccentrics.

                Hi all.

just been playing around with the drawings for Minnie and I was looking at the boiler which it states as 16g thiscan't be a double up in 2" scale as this would make it 3mm thick . Is this right ?

                Cheers Bob

Yes thats right tube would need to be 10swg and plate 3mm, 16swg is 1.5mm so doubled up thats 3mm, imperial plate/sheet is not easy to get now but tube still comes in SWG. Though do check with your boiler inspector first

Also I think the tube plate may be thicker still
