Split smokebox

Hi, I am building a Martin Evan’s Columbia. The regulator is within the smokebox with an actuation control rod that goes out one side of the smokebox. The design would be much improved if the smokebox was of the split design. However I have not seen a split smokebox in person and how no idea how one fits the two half’s together.

can someone please explain the best method.thanks

I used 2 internal but straps with nuts and bolts. Then if in future I can’t get the nuts off I can cut the heads off and push them through. Mine is freelance, so I can say the original was that way!

Like Duncan, 2 halves, each with a butt strap and countersunk bolts/screws. You might consider stainless in an effort to avoid corrosion, and assemble with copperslip or such. Noel.
