Having recently purchased a flexible coolant hose kit (Dark Blue with Orange fittings) for my mill and surface grinder I am very disappointing with the quality – every single joint leaks along with the valves, the black plastic fitting tool is next to useless as it flexes too much in use….

Is there a recommended make to look out for that doesn’t leak ? Obviously can’t send this one back as its used.

I have a small section of a light green colour which i was using on my surface grinder until the new hose set turned up and that didn’t leak, there isn’t any identifying marks on the green hose.

Anyone Recommend a supplier please and a good quility brand.

I’ll be refitting the old hose for now and throwing away the new set.

BTW – the old hose is only 6 inches long so not really ideal, hence the need to buy new….

Proper Loc-line will be better than cheap imported. Or run Poly tube down the middle of what you have and the Locish-line just acts to position it. That is what I use on my CNC

Thanks for the prompt reply – it amazes me that the UK tool suppliers stock such inferior products in the first place – I would assume that most hobbyist engineers would much prefer to buy a decent reliable product then get disappointed with cheap imports.

Do you know of a UK supplier ?

MSC Direct do it but at about 10 times the price of direct from China or 4 times the ME trade.

Plus one for Loc Line, it’s what I use on my CNC mill.

Based on the number of posts on here complaining about cheap tooling the above assumption is incorrect. Some people seem to buy on price alone and are then unhappy when they get an MOT failure rather than a new Rolls Royce.

I’m sure you’ve heard the saying: Buy cheap, buy twice.

I actually made fittings so that windscreen washer tubing could be used.

Control is by a shop made needle valve , with the whole thing mounted of a small magnetic base.

Seems to work on gravity feeding soluble oil onto parting, or screwcutting tools

I can’t say how my cheap copy performs with flood coolant as I have never tried it and that was never my intention when I bought it. I had seen others using it to position a small bore tube run down the middle and it works great for that and the combined cost of tube and locline was still considerably less than the genuine article.

I also don’t get residual liquid in the fine tube so when wanting to use it for just air don’t get what is left in the tube from the last job on the work.

That is the one, assuming you don’t have the paper version then the best way to look is to use the virtual catalogue. Starts on page 531 in my paper one. It is easier than using the search function.

                          Another option is Rotagrip:

Zoro would also be worth a look.
