      Hi everyone,

Have been browsing the forum for a little while and thought it was about time I joined now I own a lathe!

Last week I picked up a secondhand Warco WM180. I work for the NHS so do not have an engineering background but I enjoy restoring classic motorbikes (at 31 I am not the usual demographic for classic bikes!). I am hoping to learn how to use the lathe to make small parts for my current project bike (1957 BSA Bantam) and future bikes/projects. The lathe has a bit of surface rust so my first project is going to be giving the lathe a good clean with some fine steel wool and maybe even giving it a repaint.

Look forward to chatting with you all and I apologise in advance for future stupid questions I post!!!

      Michael

Try using Maroon scotchbrite with a covering of hydraulic oil

          Good morning Michael,

Have a look at “Ades Workshop” on YouTube.  He’s done a lot of work to upgrade his WM180.

Welcome to the forum. Another one here from Kent. I am relatively new to model engineering myself but learning a lot.

Welcome aboard. Many of us here have multiple interest areas, Classic bikes being one of them amongst the many. Usual case of ‘too many pies – not enough fingers’.

                        Welcome Michael,

I’m no where near you (S W Wales), and you only being 31 means I’m feeling better now that I’m not the pup! (I’m sure there are others younger than me but no one has said!).

Unfortunately I am down to 1 bike now and that needs ‘restoring’ as it’s not been ridden for a few years due to injury..

If my experience is anything to go by you will get plenty of help here and there is no such thing as a stupid question – if you don’t know, you don’t know!

                        🍻
