People may not have seen this news. Sir David McMurtry, the co-founder of Renishaw plc, died late last year, his obituary is here:

The company was built on his invention of the “touch trigger probe” which revolutionised metrology and the setting of CNC machines. Renishaw is now a “hidden star” of UK industry and a leader in high precision manufacturing, exporting over 90% of its products which are all made in-house.
