Hello all, just in the final stages of completing a Stuart James Coombes and am a little stumped on how to initially set the governor up (never fitted a governor before) the levers are to be pinned so once their on thats it, no moving them without a lot of work and spoilt shafts. Will someone give me a rough guide on how I should procceed ?

This engine has been built from an old set of castings from Henley on Thames and I must say the quality of these castings was faultless.

I found that there is really too much friction in the governor for it to work at anything like scale speeds, added to the fact that the spring drive belt tends to slip quite a bit.

I have one on my Stuart beam when the balls are fully down the butterfly is fully open, when you lift the balls to the top of their travel the butterfly is closed. The spring tension shoul dthen allow you to fine tune the running speed. If in doubt add a small grub screw to one or two of the levers rather than pinning.

In reality I just use the compressor regulator to set the engine speed.

Jason you are spot on finally got it all up and running and the speed it runs at is not enough to throw the balls out much at all, but it looks impressive with them turning. No problems with the belt coming off or slipping, is it worth all the work though ? Must say that it runs a dream and has been a pleasure to build . David
