      Hi guys & gals

This is my first post so please excuse me if it's in the wrong place.

I have bought myself a Myford M7 (imperial) that seems in good nick.

Some years ago I had a small chinese lathe with a mill on the top, I'm sure you have all seen them, so I am not a complete beginner but with a memory like mine I might as well be.

I havent decided what I am going to be making yet (I know that is what is on your lips face 1&nbsp. Should I stick with Imperial would you say, I can't see it matters tbh but thought I'd ask.

Lastly and perhaps most importantly is anyone aware of a decent supplier of metal and tools in the area that is focused on the model engineer.

      Any clubs maybe ?

Anyway that's enough from me – Chris

Hi Chris, I live just north of Gt Yarmouth and pretty much a beginner. I use Anglia Alloys at Gorleston and Ace at Norwich for iron/steel, there is also on the Gapton hall estate a good fastener supplier who's name escapes me. I too would like to know if any clubs are about. Best regards Pat

            Dear Chris and Pat,

I'm not that near Yarmouth/Lowestoft – I'm near Diss – and I don't belong to any local clubs. However I do organise an annual model engineering exhibition at the Forncett Industrial Steam Museum, about 10 miles south of Norwich. A lot of people from Norfolk/Suffolk and further afield come along and I try to keep in touch between events with an occasional newsletter. This year's 'Model Engineers' Day' (7th October) will be our 20th and the invitations are due to go out shortly. Even if you've not yet started making anything, you'd be very welcome to come and meet us. If you – or anyone else – would like more details just send me an e-mail address.

            Best wishes,

            Bill

Ah you mean Westgate Fastenings, they are great.

I have used AA and Ace for bits and bobs but I had in my mind a dusty old shop with a bloke in a brown coat. I bed you know the sort of thing

Hope we meet up one day.

              Best Chris

I'd love to come so when I work out how to send, I will do so.

                Thanks Chris

Hi Chris and Pat. The two 'local' clubs would be The Norwich and District MES and the Halesworth MES – I don't have a contact number for either but unless anyone else on here does I can easily get one for you.

Material suppliers are as Pat recommends – there is little in Lowestoft these days but Westgate Fasteners, Taylors close by and RJ Pryces around the corner all down on the Whapload road area.

I can thoroughly endorse Bill's invitation to Forncett, maybe see you there

                  Regards – Ramon

I'm not thinking quickly enough. Contact details for both the clubs Ramon mentions are on my list of contacts for the Model DEngineers' Day at Forncett. I assume they are 'in the public domain' as they are club officers.

Halesworth – sorry, no name: secretary@hdmes

and Norwich – Shirely Berry: shirley-allen@talktalk.net

                    Best wishes,

                    Bill.
