Getting the Handle Off a Vertex RT

        Simple question – I hope.
        How do I get the handle off a Vertex HV6 rotary table?
        I’ve removed the socket head screw in the centre of the handle and loosened the grub screw on the indexing ring.
        The handle is keyed to the shaft and after removing the SH screw the handle now moves along the shaft for a couple of millimetres but then it seems to come up against a stop.
        I have looked at the “manual” complete with exploded diagram but it is unreadable not to mention unhelpful.
        So please can all you Vertex RT users let me into the secret so I can fit my dividing bits and pieces.

          I’ve got a 4″ vertex and the handle on that is d**m tight.
           
          it does pull off but only with a good tug.
          I don’t think there is anything else holding it on, when I put mine back it only goes a little way then the bolt pulls it on.
           
           
          so I think a bit of welly is called for.

            I found that the key on mine was a lttle high and was causing the handle to bind.
             
            I used a 3 leg puller to remove the handle initially and then ‘fetled’ things to get a good sliding fit with no play. Don’t resort to the ‘bit of welly’ method as ou risk distorting the shaft or damaging the handwheel.
             
            A simple puller could be made from a piece of flat bar with a bolt through the middle and then clamped to the handwheel.

              Hi Hugh
              I just had another close look at my table and by marking various surfaces with a marker pen I discovered its the end of the shaft, the part where the key fits, it was very slightly oversize,
               
              a few minutes with a diamond hone all round the diameter and now it slides on and off nicely.
               
              sorry about the overentheusiastic ‘bit of welly’ comment.

                Thanks for that. I will lash up a puller and persuade the little bu**er off the shaft then fettle to prevent future problems.
