Hi my name is Dave whalley I am 64 and just retired, I have been into steam most of my life as my father before me. Having restored old Lorries and vintage cars and small steam engines . I have now had to down size with retirement .current projects are 2" burrell gold medal bought 90% complete now in painting stages also 2" showmans engine that I have totally restored was in the livery of Anderton and Rollins which is near completion.The latest purchase is a 4" Burrell traction engine which had been garage stored for 10 years never seen light of day hoping to show this year as in found state . Engineering background is self taught get by with assistance from a couple of friends looked at this site many of times and now have taken the plunge hoping to make many friends and enthusiasts. I live just outside of Blackpool in England , regards Dave .

Welcome Dave, A gold mine of info on here from very nice folks who all go out of their way to be helpful to beginners like me. I am constantly gobsmacked by the skills on here and the incredible breadth of knowledge about all things not just engineering.

HI GOOD EVENING TO YOU ALL I HAVE BEEN BUSY IN MY WORK SHOP GETTING MY 4Ins BURRELL READY FOR STATIC DISPLAY AS I SEAD WE GOT THIS ENGINE OUT OFF A SHED IT WAS RUN FOR ONE YEAR AND STORED FOR 8YEARS TILL I BOUGHT THIS 6 MONTHS AGO I WAS UNDER THE IMPPRESION I DID NOT NEED A TEST FOR STATIC NOW I HAVE BEEN TOLD I MUST HAVE A CUURANT TEST CERTIFICATE TO ATEND THESE SHOWS CAN ANYONE TELL ME WERE I CAN GET MY ENGINE TESTED CLOSE TO WERE I AM BASED IN LANCASHIRE ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED MENNY THANKS DAVE

HI THANKS FOR YOUR HELP IN THE TESTING OF MY ENGINE GOING DOWN THE PATH OF MY LOCAL CLUB I DIDANT WANT TO SIT AND TALK ABOUT TRAINS FOR SIX MOUNTHS BEFOR I COUILD GET A TEST ALL I WANTED WAS PAY FOR A TEST AND BE ON MY WAY TO THE RALLY FEILD SO I WENT DOWN THE ROAD OF A PRIVET TESTER A LOT MORE EXPENSIVE BUT I WAS OUT LAST WEEKEND AT CHIPPING STEAM FAIR AND HAD A GRATE 3DAY SHOW AND EVEN GOT A ROSETTE FOR DISPLAY WHITH THE ENGINE BEING ABLE TO RUN A SMALL POWER HACKSAW WATH I AM STUCK FOR NOW CAN ANYONE OUT THERE TELL ME WERE I CAN GET SOME NEW FIRE GRATE BARS FOR MY BURRELL 4INS ENGINE KIND REGARDS DAVID

Had the boiler tested privately all went well l have steamed it two or three times but cannot get enough power out of the engine when up to working pressure at 100psi and also getting a lot of water coming into my smoke box can anybody help or advise

Welcome Dave regarding your problem water in smoke box first check your not over filling the boiler should this not be the case we need a bit more info !
