Would you like a piece about Files? This might include the various types and what they will and won't do, how to store and keep free from rust etc, problems such as pinning, Filing flat edges, surfaces, curves etc.

One article, or a mini series? How many words & pictures per section?

This might fit in very well with the sponsor, although rather wider than lathework.

Might I suggest an article on simple milling on a starter or mini lathe? I'm a real beginner (I have been beginning for a while now) and have built a couple of little engines but struggle with everything to do with milling. TBH I'm very unlikely to acquire a milI in the foreseeable future. I got some help from this forum on vertical slides and home-made solutions (Neil, I think you described a device you made?) As ever, there is a lot of info out there when you search and ask but a single article setting out some basics on kit and technique would be useful. Also maybe a couple of little starter projects to build confidence?

+1 for an article on files, particularly cleaning them without dulling the cutting edges. Also what to do if 'contaminated' with softer metals or body filler.

A related question, where can you get new file handles?? Seems like most places sell files with handles and files without handles, but not the handles by themselves. In my experience the handles fail well before the files die.

Phil, I will be doing a series on Milling for beginners in alternate issues to Neil's one on Lathe work.

Geoff, in the box of goodies that came with the SX2.7mill From Arc were some of the blue Tome File handles that they do along with the Tome range of files and very comfy to use they are too. Will be buying some more for myself, I already have a few of the files.

Eric, I wonder if most newcommers will just buy a digital Mic and not have any problems reading it.

I took careful note the other day and the most used tool in my workshop turns out to be a toothbrush! They're just the thing for clearing swarf.

I reckon the single most useful tool I own is a bandsaw: sawing by hand is b***** hard work, takes ages, and is deadly boring.
