Whilst browsing Youtube the other day, I discovered something new to me called a Manson Engine.

I can see videos of a few different examples running, and some descriptions of operation, but I cannot understand how they run.

      They do look intriguing though.

I also cannot find any plans anywhere. Do any exist?

Is that a Manson-Guise Engine, a variation of a hot air engine with some improvements? Dave W

Looks an interesting idea, though I would think the thermal efficiency would be very low:

Another engine I have never heard of there – but according to Wikipedia, the Manson-Guise is an improved version of the Manson engine.

I started gathering bits about one of these engines but never started a build. I have put the little info I have into a pdf so if anyone is interested it can be downloaded from my website ** Manson Engine ** right at the bottom of the page. It includes an article by A.D. Manson from 1952.

Thanks, John … just one question :

                  Is it all there?
… it only appears to run to page 4 of 5

I'm afraid that's all I have. I did a further rummage through the archives and came up with a couple of related bits: Trans Manson and Transferators! I have added them to the pdf above.

                      .

Many thanks, John … count me "bewildered"

All twelve pages are now displaying nicely on the Mac … but when I looked at the five-pager on the iPad, earlier, page 5 [the piston picture] was not showing.

                        Thanks for that info John.

Just got to find the asbestos and I can have a go at that one .

Why, for such a simple engine is there such little information available, and no plans available?

This video for one of Jos deVink's engines is quite interesting, music is a bit OTT.

This one from Stirlingmodels in the Netherlands is quite interesting ** 2 cylinder Manson **

I just finished building a Manson engine and have put together a care package that includes complete plans. Complete details are here:
