Hi

I have a 1958 Myford Super 7 and feel the need to replace the spindle ball bearings. I think they are the original bearings ( R & M thrust, 40-M97, LJT 25 ) as they have play in them. I measured the old bearings and they seem to be closer to metric than imperial ie. O.D. 52mm , I.D. 25mm, width 15mm .

Would anybody know what the correct size is?

Any help would be appreciated.

Your dimensions are correct. It is an angular contact bearing NSK 7205B or equivalent. Just purchase a good quality bearing from the better bearing companies, SKF, NSK, RHP. Do not use cheap Chinese bearings as they have too much vibration.

Your other option is to do the Taper Roller bearing conversion, you will find it documented here

Again make sure you use the best quality bearings. You can either find them online or your local bearing supplier.

I did the taper roller conversion and can thoroughly recommend it.
