          Hi dpsingh,

What kind of taper in your milling machine? If it is Int. 30 you should be able to buy an arbor. If you know what kind of taper you should be able to measure length, diameter and other dimensions if you wish to make your own.

There is also a Yahoo group – Tom Senior Milling Machines – have you tried asking there?

          Thor

            Hi Thor

many thanks for your reply, i think it is Int 30 while searching on internet i find details of an arbor on ebay which is sold. there the seller has mentioned that the arbor is Int 30.

            here is the link

            http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TOM-SENIOR-MILLING-MACHINE-ARBOR-/290865322725?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&nma=true&si=PRF%252FPEWqz%252FpbJcd2UJ9%252Fx6%252FeicQ%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

another problem is that i live in india, most of the sellers on ebay.com do not ship to India.

i have also tried on yahoo group but didn't get any replies yet.

            thanks

Half the new tools sold in the UK now are made in India or China. You should be able to find their source.

                  Hi Davinder,

This wesite often comes up when I search for some items of tooling. You should be able to find what you need there: indiamart.com

Your only problem might be getting small quantities.

                      hi Neil

thanks for giving time, you are right the problem is with quantity they do not entertain individual item sale they are much interested in getting business.

                      regards

Have you looked on Aliexpress? That site is for small qty orders and they have an escrow payment option – you only pay once you receive the goods and are happy with them. They also ship to India and some of them include free shipping.

BTW, the taper may be described as NMTB30, BT30, CAT30, INT30, ISO30 or just 30 taper. The dimensions are readily available on the internet eg Wikipedia **LINK**

Just be aware that although the taper may be the same, for some of these systems, the flanges etc may be slightly different.

You may even consider buying what you need from the UK. Bizarrely, I found it cheaper to buy 30 taper milling accessories in the UK than locally, including the cost of carriage (I live in Canada). However, given that many of these accessories are made in India, that would be quite remarkable! Have you contacted Soba in India and asked them for local suppliers near where you live?

DS. It would be interesting to hear a bit more about your experience of engineering & modelling in India. Are you a hobbyist, a small machine shop, or perhaps in education? Are there any tool shops around? Are there improters of Chinese made lathes and mills that are now dominating the European market?

Back to subject: If you search for the UK firm Chester Machine Tools, download their catalogue, and look for "Model T universal milling machine"
It is a combined horizontal and vertical machine (clone of the old Elliott Omnimill which was briefly rebadged by Southbend in the USA) and uses a 30int arbor. As this is a Chinese mill it might be available from importers in other countries and thus provide a route for spares.
The Chinese manufacturers can be found by searching things like "universal horizontal vertical milling".

Bazyle, i am an electronics engineer by profession but always looking forward to do new things and also associted with students by giving them training on circuit designing.

as u asked there are many tool rooms around here but none of these work for hobby purpose they are only interested in things that make business. the region where i live is famous for scientific and laboratory equipment export all over the world.(microscopes, medical equipment etc)

(my home town Ambala, Haryana, India).

situation here is same the market is flooded with chinese material also the local material & machinery available is of poor quality. fine machinery is out of reach of any hobbyist.

i recently purchased a tom senior univeral milling machine for 2800 USD without arbor.

dissamled the machine for overhauling purpose post a pic of same as soon as possible.

                              thans for giving time

Have look at CTC Tools in Hong Kong – you can Google it – they do worldwide shipping with no apparent exceptions. Try going through an order and when you get to the final checkout, if you don't like the carriage charge – or they won't post to you – just leave the site. They do an NT30 collet arbor for USD41, for example.
