      hello

I have recently been given a part built 5" gauge 0-6-0 tank chassis and part built boiler. It has only two remaining drawings – a bit moth eaten as well – one is a boiler general arrangement and refers to the loco as a Henry Greenly "Billington". My dad and I think its an LBSCR design (NOT LBSC), but I can't find any other details on the web. Does anyone recognise this loco and would know where I can get the drawings?

      many thanks

      john

Try Maxitrak – they have the archive of the Greenly drawings. The Billington tank is listed as having 4 sheets.

              Many thanks John & Simon.

I wondered what the numbering was on the plan I have!.

I have contacted Maxitrak for more details.

That brought back long distant memories of driving a Helean Lassie around Maidstone track many years ago as a visitor. It was a great track.

              regards

i know this an old post but i'm hoping John Hilton is still around. i'm looking to build a billionton 0-6-0 i contacted Maxitrak and brought the plans in 2014 but all the sheets hadnt been scanned so after all this time i know have br101,102,103 but no 104. i was hoping you may have found a copy of this as it is the main frame and i would like to find a copy before i start and have to design my own. if you didnt find the drawings do you have any pictures of the frames that you have. any help would be great. maxitraks are still looking for the missing drawings but though i would ask to see if anyone has a copy of the required drawing.

I seem to recall the LBSCR E1 tanks were the subject of an article in ME many years ago in the series "Locomotives I Have Known" by J. Maskelyne. It would have contained a fairly detailed side elevation at least, from which it might be possible to work out a frame design. I'll see if i can find it in my collection.

Also I noted that the design of these is credited to William Stroudley. Was there another class of E1 tanks designed by Billington? I know he was responsible for later versions of 0-6-2 tanks based on the E1.

There is an E1 tank on the roster at Isle of Wight according to their website, could be a potential source of further information on the real locos?

                    Hi William.

I will have a look in my workshop. I know I still have the cylinders and parts of valve gear from the loco, and (more importantly) where they are!

thanks john that would be great. i can work out the frames from the ga drawing as it has most dimensions on it but having the frame drawing or some photo refences will make it so much easier.

                        Hi William

Well I have turned the workshop inside out, but alas can't find the plans. I have the cylinders and valve gear in one unit, some wheels and axles but that is all I am afraid.

                        regards

thanks for looking john. looks like i will just work from the GA and draw it all up. are the parts you have from the billington 0-6-0 and if so would you consider sell. i'm in australia so there would be a little bit of packing required but i'm intrested in getting any of the casting for the billinton 0-6-0 tank that i can. email me at web2800@bigpond.com and we can work something out if you are intrested.

To be pedantic, it's Billinton (no "g&quot. Apparently when he got wed, his wife-to-be refused to have the same name as the then Chief Executioner. Or so the story goes. Good luck with your loco; I guess you might need to visit the real one on the Isle of Wight.
