Ordered one of these a couple of weeks ago and I think my order got lost, didn't think I was going to get it at all as it then went out if stock!

It finally turned up and have done the first cuts with it today. Must admit to being quite impressed. Set the angle cut feature up to cut at 90 degree using a square and the results on a piece of inch square were good with a good clean cut using one of the two blades supplied (14tpi), it did it quite quietly and quickly.

Recommended, especially as it fits on my rack and can be pulled out for immediate use!

+1 for the Sheppach band saw from Aldi.

It is made in Germany, all metal construction (apart from the drive wheel covers) it is fairly quiet, has 6 speeds, and cuts surprisingly accurately.

My only criticism is the work holding clamp, which doesn't always hold stock squarely.

Overall for £115 it is a bargain and recommended

I got one as I sometimes have the need for something more portable and was very impressed.

            So +1 from me too!

              It is made in Germany

It says only the word "Germany" in big letters on my box. In much smaller letters it says "made in China".

I think £115 says it all.

There is nothing wrong with machines 'made in China'

You have to remember the warranty and service is provided by a German company, based in Germany, so all their machines will be made to German specifications and standards

Why do so many on here assume that everything that is 'made in China' must automatically be crap !!!

Bill, I didn't say that YOU think 'made in China' is crap, I was just throwing in a tease, knowing that anything Chinese seems to get slated on here as being cheap and of poor quality.

From my own experiences (so far) it is generally well made, but not to British, German or Japanese standards, but non-the-less acceptable when you take into account the cost !!

The Scheppach bandsaw as sold by Aldi is no exception, it performs very well, and so far has cut everything I have thrown at it accurately enough not to cause me any concern

                        Cheers, Steve

Hi, I don’t know any better as I purchased one having no experience of such a device. It has been a revelation having this in the workshop. As per a previous posting it fits under my bench out of the way and is simply moved up when required. It has saved me hours of cutting and angle cutting discs. I love it. I did look as some ‘better machines’ as recommended by posters on here and I’m sure they are superior. However, they were quite a few hundred quid more which I can’t justify. As previously stated the clamping mechanism is limited in what it can deal with. Maybe sometime in the future I will adapt it. For now every time I’ve managed to get around its limitations. It gets a big thumbs up from me.

I was sold after reading the posts above, the trouble is so are they! No stock on the Aldi website.

I had a look on the saw and base and couldn't find any reference to China so scrutinized the box, nothing except on the bottom – Made in China! Almost as though it was trying to be hidden!

Anyway been using it again today and it's been doing a grand job – square and effortless on some 2 in by 1/2 in steel. I am aware the vice gets criticism but apart from the jaws being a distance from the blade it does a good job. I turned the rear jaw around so it's now about 1/8 from the blade and I will make a drop on blade for the moving jaw taking that closer to the blade, no big deal I thought.

All in all very pleased with it for £115 with 3 year warranty!

Maybe it's just the box that is made in China wink

Been thinking about buying one of these band saws for a while now, one thing I'd like to know is do they have the ability to be used in a similar fashion as conventional band saw? i.e a small table that a work piece can be manually fed into the blade as some other portable saws seem to have

                                  Guy
