Having just acquired a Unimat 3 as I wanted a small lathe for quick jobs and especially ones needing high spindle speed, I'd like to make a tangential tool holder for it. Is anyone aware of a design specifically for the Unimat (or the C0) please, before I design my own?

OK, well it's nearly a year since Michael pointed me to that design for the Taig, and having fitted the new collet spindle it was time to get the toolpost sorted. A 25mm cube of FC steel had this hiding inside it.

Here's another view taken off the lathe with some turned bits of metal, sitting on the headstock.

On the left is a bit of stainless, shank of a special bolt lying in the scrap box. Turns nicely to a good finish at ~ 1000 rpm. Next to it is 8 mm aluminium, turned down to 6 mm in one pass running about 800 rpm (I think).

This is particularly what the lathe is for – turning small diameter silver steel for pivots, this at ~2000 rpm. The tool works beautifully. A set of cheap and nasty carbide tools came with the lathe, I did have a go with them but they were awful so I didn't have high expectations, but very pleased. An interesting exercise in angular milling with my very rarely used swivel and tilting vice.
