Wouldn't it be nice to have a set of stub drills in 0.1mm increments to 6mm…or to 10mm?

PS: At model engineering prices, not aerospace tool room prices

I've bought quite a few stub drills in odd sizes at the model engineering shows. They're normally cheaper than ordinary bits and have all been titanium nitrided. Very handy when you have limited Z on a job.

I'll have a look out for a small chuck on a straight shaft.

You can buy arbors with a parallel shaft and a JT taper on the other end to fit whatever chuck you, probably, already have.

Interesting that nobody seems to know that drills with constant diameter shafts are available. Not cheap I admit, but these I have have almost eternal life.

          Like these e.g:

Going back to specialist collets. I won't pretend it would give super accuracy, but if you want to hold 'peculiar' or offset parts, I wonder if a disposable 3D printed collet would be the way to go?

Funny you should say that. I had it in mind to model some ER collets later today and try a quick 3D print to see what I get.

I think I may be able to cover most of the range with one model and a (large) family-table. Might need to widen the slots a bit for printing – we'll see.
