She who has to be obeyed is collecting some CT-90 from Toolstation as she passes on her way to do our weekly shop, I ordered on line and they bring it to the door.

Hmm… some for the idea of a list ( those posting information) and some against, mostly because of the changing situation.I wonder if the one-man bands, locked up in their shops, might be safer and less likely to close than the larger firms with staff to consider?

So lets try, if it's not useful we will only have lost a little time, and if it works the MEs can save time and phone calls etc and the suppliers might get more orders. The hobby depends on the small suppliers, if they are trying to stay open it would surely be useful know this.

The list can only give a guide, and a phone call to confirm and order might be safer than ordering from a website which might just swallow your money for the duration if the firm is closed.

        So far we have:-

Arc Euro Tools – closed Opening again for mail order

        Bearingboys Ltd – open

        Chronos – open

        CuP alloys -open

        EKP – open

        GLR- open

        GWR Fasteners -open

        Live Steam Models -open

        Macc models – open

        M Machine Metals – open

        Myford – open

        RGD tools – open

        Screwfix – open for pre-orders

        Toolstation – open for pre-orders

        Tracy tools – open

Moderators, or someone with IT skills, is there an easier way to update the list than rewriting it as new info comes in?

I ordered some clock repairing tools from Alfindings Ltd via Amazon, they arrived two days after ordering and also ordered some clock repairing tools from R & N Electronics, website http://www.rnhorological.co.uk, currently in transit.

I also bought a clock off of Ebay, delivered last week with driver observing SD and had another Courier arrive to collect a cast iron Exhaust Pot for a Stationary engine SD observed also.

It's a little academic for me which mailorder suppliers are open for business and which aren't because the postal service in my area is barely functioning; we haven't had any letters or parcels delivered for over a week though we are expecting several.

Oh dear. I take it you are in a remote location. We are getting post ok in Leeds.

            Steve.

Post in B'ham is variable between normal and 3 weeks late, we have a local sorting office 2 miles away.

Some strange ratiocination going on there,

Happy to be corrected if you can show the evidence

In plain English … same people, but distinct Limited Companies

Not an unusual arrangement, and presumably confers some reasonable advantage to them.

In the good old days, pre-WW2, Morris Motors was owned by William Morris. He then bought Wolseley, but kept it as a separate company in his personal ownership. Later he sold what was left of Wolseley to Morris Motors for a tidy sum.

So, it is clear (to me) that although two firms can be owned by the same chap (or several chaps) they still count as separate companies, but it can also be that a firm can become the property of a different firm even if both firms are owned by the same person.

                    Cheers, Tim

Well, the idea of a list of ME suppliers open and closed seemed like a good one .

I had thought, when I heard that Arc were closing, that others would follow. But, based on the information from everyone it seems most of the smaller suppliers are open and we don't really need a list.

Thanks to everyone who supplied information to establish this "most suppliers are open" picture.

I would like to take the opportunity to pay tribute to Tracy Tools for amazing service in the present circumstances. I placed a small order with them late on Thursday and it arrived safe and sound first thing this morning. Not only that but I ordered carbon steel taps and they have kindly substituted HSS at no additional cost. Such service deserves recognition, all the more so in these troubled times. Thank you all.

I have also had similar excellent service from Chronos and Axminster in the past week.

It shows how fortunate we are in this country with such dedicated suppliers, but also the service we enjoy from those who actually carry out the deliveries and are trying so hard to keep things going, our thanks should also be extended to them.

I have no affiliation with Tracy Tools, Chronos or Axminster other than as a very satisfied customer.

                        Allen

                              Evening all,

If people are really stuck for materials I have the following which I'm willing to share amongst forum members,

                              300mm x 28mm cast iron.

                              300mm x 95mm cast iron

                              300mm x 90mm alu

                              300mm x 95mm cored 25mm PB

                              300mm x 28mm s/steel

I will cut and post to your requirements (you pay the postage) until the material is gone.Payment would be by Paypal and prior to payment you will receive an email showing the receipt from the Post Office to justify cost.

                              No charge for the metal.

It's garden time of year so I'll take my chance of survival/more stock until autumn.

We are all in this together and I hope we ALL survive.

                              Nathan.

Michael, my apologies for not answering your query earlier. With the glorious weather today I was outside until dinner time this evening.

Yes they are length x diameter. I have no idea of the grade of Aluminium but it turns well. Postage costs will be whatever the Post Office charge.

Moderators, or someone with IT skills, is there an easier way to update the list than rewriting it as new info comes in?

Best way is to quote it, select all, then hit the blue rubber 'remove formatting' icon and edit the list as I have done.

I think many of the ones down as 'open' are actually mail order only so if anyone who knows can update, please do.

That way the right info is at the latest post.

Myford are operating very well, I ordered something on Saturday evening and it arrived in the post Tuesday.

Screwfix are also very good, I ordered a large item on Monday and Parcel Force delivered it yesterday.

All done online to avoid collecting stuff from shops etc.
