      Hello,

Sorry for posting such a basic request but I wonder if anyone can help me as to where I can obtain locally or via post the correct lubricants, way oil, spindle etc for my Bridgeport. I live in sunny Norfolk

Hydraulic oil from a car parts or agricultural supply store will get you going.

            Ebay is your friend.

Also YouTube is a good way to pick up all the knowledge to run your Bridgeport. Search for :- Keith Fenner, abom79, mrpete222, Joe Pyzinski they all have great machining videos. regards

                  Hi,

I use NUTO32 in the head and slideway 68 on the ways both off ebay – just ensure that the head drips oil – you want to see a small pool say 7 – 10 drops worth on the surface below the head everytime you go into the workshop. I squirt 11 drops in the head oil cup before every use.

I highly recommend the Practical Machinist Brigeport forum

I use generic hydraulic and slideway oils of the appropriate ISO grade; although I do buy from industrial outlets so there is some control over quality.

I don't know if Lubriplate is still available, I couldn't find it last time I looked. I bought a couple of genuine tubes of new, old stock off Ebay some years ago. At one squeeze per six months they'll probably outlast me.

There is usually a supplier locally,or not far away, who can supply most common items required, such as belts, pulleys,

oil, grease, and many other bits and pieces Although I,m out in the sticks, there is a place about 5/6 miles away who appears to have EVERYTHING and if he does not have it,he knows who has, next best thing.

So,my advice is to get to know your supplier, call in now and then, just to buy small stuff, and show your face. You never know when you might need him,in a hurry. Most of them are OK and will do their best to help, although you will come across the odd one who does not want to be bothered with small operators,. Just give them a miss and look around elsewhere. All these guys have contacts in related lines,so they can be a great source of information in tracking something down.

Hope you get up and running soon and have fun !

Lubriplate B-105 is available in the US, but I have always used standard lithium based grease without trouble.

Gary – your location of Norfolk makes us co-resident. If you are anywhere near Bacton, you are welcome to come and see what sort of mess this 'absolute beginner' makes. Skill levels are rubbish but lots of 'toys' and enthusiasm!!

I use a "Din"68 spec oil for the ways and an ISO 32 hydraulic oil for all the other points. Lubriplate is available in USA . I fitted a grease nipple in "Screw A" and a once every six months lithium based grease seems OK.

I have seen Lubriplate available in this country in a motor factors internet shop, but it was really expensive. And i have had three lots of 'the last squeeze' and i cant squash the tube anymore. It seems an odd grease to use in a dirty factory machine.

                                  Old Al,

It is a clean grease for components that are infrequently used, having said that, the "white" lub used for car door locks and hinges is very similar, indeed, Lubriplate have a 105.(without the B for Bridgeport), just for such a purpose.
