Looks a like my daughter's six month old macbook will have to go back to Apple for repair

Had fun trying the shift-control-option reset combination – hard to be confident you are pressing the correct keys as Apple helpfully don't seem to notice that the 'option' key hasn't got option written on it. angry

Even better if Apple called it the 'alt' key as that's what is written on it, but I suppose they want to differentiate them from people with computers that work…

P.S. your link is one of those that refuses to work if adblocked, but I briefly got to see the railway image. Apparently in Germany it's called the 'bath' key because of the shape…

The engine has one cylinder missing, how about a Norton engine in a Vincent frame?

Grey Flash only had one cylinder. Engine was part of frame in Vincents, so not sure how you'd persuade a Norton engine to fit. Normal way round was Norton frame and Vincent twin engine.

I had a 500 Vincent, one of the nicest singles I ever had. All the Vincent bits like screws with offset tommy bars and the brilliant front forks, but a normal g/box and clutch. Sold it for £50, those were the days.

I finished the attachment of my QC toolpost to the cross slide. It involved 2 bits of 6" x 3" x 1" steel blocks as a base and I made my first screw cut M14 x 1.5 mm thread to replace the supplied clamp bolt. Did it using hand power to the spindle and, with no half nut, a lot of winding of the spindle. The £6 thread cutting insert and holder worked perfectly, despite being chinesium.

Next job is making the female dovetail for the toolholder.

                                Regards

                                Richard.

Unexpected parcel arrived in the post today from eldest daughter. She is her fathers daughter and shares my sense of humour. Parcel contained a tee shirt:

Hope my wife doesn't see ChrisH's pictures, or she will be sending for the Grumpy Old Men's Club T-shirt as a present for me Today I've been struggling to remove the rusty old hinges from my garage/workshop doors. Problem is that when I put the hinges on about 15 years ago I filled in the heads of the Phillips screws with Araldite, hoping to discourage anyone who fancied breaking in by removing the screws. Problem is couldn't use heat to destroy the Araldite for fear of setting either the doors or the doorposts alight. Finally got the answer: put a cutting disc in the angle grinder and make a cut that goes through the centre of the screw head. It can then be unscrewed with a large conventional screwdriver.

All now working thanks to Direct Drives, who supplied the inverter.

I've only run the motor briefly on a couple of occasions and now need the check that everything is oiled and greased with the correct materials, then I'll have a go at actually cutting brass to make a pair of nameplates for my Burrell Boydell engine.

ChrisH: I've now acquired a "Grumpy Old Men's Club" T-shirt like yours. My wife thinks it is appropriate because I have inherited haemochromatosis – a huge excess of iron in my body which makes me grumpy, outspoken and opinionated. It's treated by removing a unit of blood, at first every week and, later, every fortnight. Saw "Nurse Dracula" in the hospital to be bled this morning, and she thinks it ought to be the official T-shirt of the Haemochromatosis Society!
