I have recently purchased a Warco WM 14 and it has a Digital Spindle Height/Ruler Gauge. There are 5 buttons. One turns it on/off, there is one to zero and one for imperial metric. But there are also two others which is an arrow pointing up and another pointing down. I have scanned the Internet and cannot find anything (including the Warco Operators manual) that tells me what the are for. I was assuming they allow you to increment up or down when the spindle is controlled from the micro adjustment dial on the front, but neither button seems to change anything when I push them. Is there some sort of combination or is this a known problem?

        How does it work?

Well on my elderly WM14 the up and down arrow buttons increment and decrement the display as you would expect! Basically they allow you to zero the reading when drilling. i.e. Lower the drill to just touch the work surface using the quill then adjust up/down to set zero and then drill until required depth  reads on display.

The same generic box is used on a number of different DROs. On some, the buttons are marked ADD and SUB, or + and -, or with arrows : they add or subtract 0.01mm to the scale value. Others label the buttons ABS and HOLD or SET. HOLD locks the display value and ABS switches between relative and absolute measurements.

On my WM18 the arrow buttons don't do anything and they're not mentioned in the manual. I think it's because the mill is fitted with the simplest possible unit. Sufficient for the spindle that the gauge only does ON/OFF, ZERO, and metric/imperial. I've not missed the other functions at all, though I suppose they might be handy if the mill were used as a sort of height gauge. I don't think it's a fault.

To set 'zero' to a number other than 0.

-Hold down Zero button until 'S' flashes in display

-Use up and down arrows to set display to desired number.

-Press Zero again to display new zero point.

              To reset, follow above steps.

Yep I contacted Warco today and they sent me a link to a video and also a pdf. I am rewriting the pdf for them as it doesn't point out the critical requirement that you mention in your reply… " Hold down Zero button until 'S' flashes in display" this is why I couldn't set it. So now I have it sussed thank you. It is basically and offset.

The video was very good… **LINK**
