This weeks mystery Object / Tool ??

This came in the week inside a crate of tools.

Several people have said mousetrap but I feel they are having a laugh!

The small piece inside is well made and fits its recess quite precisely, nicely made and put together.

Any guesses anyone?

My guess is you press something quite gently in it. Probably soft and a bit sticky – hence the string to lift the block and the lose bit to stop things sticking in the bottom?

Here You Go, or mice maybe, just lacking the trigger mechanism; note the little notch on the paddle shaped bit.

Amazing! Just tried it out and it works perfectly, very sensitive indeed. Many thanks for the info.

The trigger bar is the small piece of wood that fits neatly on the end notch and into the side of the large block, very light retention, just a tiny light touch on the internal paddle and off it goes.

Probably just holds the mouse in place and it dies of fright

I would tend towards the mousetrap theory. There is a very similar contraption in the museum in Framingham Castle that is described as a mouse trap.

well they look very dog friendly trouble it wont fit under the cupboard norm
