Is there a stop on it in case it hits the lathe bed.

As I said earlier, just keep hanging on to one end, preferably the loose one.

About all I could usefully do would pick my nose. Just for interest – Why does it not work very well to hold the hacksaw against the slowly revolving workpiece ? Everybody must have tried it! This has been worrying me for some time now.

Because you are only using the same few teeth and without some blade movement there is no room for the chips to escape.

 

Gordon, you either have a big nose or no brush

 

If I have to stand by the saw for either small jobs or multiple cuts I usually do a bit of cleaning up on either the nearest machine or welding bench.
