Steel boiler for a 4″ Burrell DCC

Hi all,

I am trying to re-boiler a Showmans engine, but have to find a manufacturer.  I was speaking to Chris at Berwyn boilers just before Christmas 2024, but he seems to be off the radar at the minute.  He was happy enough at the time to make it for me, but Other life events took over and pushed the engine back in priority.  Chris sounded very good and I seen some of his impressive work.

Would anyone know if he is still in operation and making boilers?  He might just be very busy, but I would like to explore getting this boiler made sometime.

If anyone could throw some light on this, I would really appreciate it.

There don’t seem many, sadly! No ads for steel-boiler makers in the magazine, and not many for copper boilers.

Berwyn Boilers’ web-site is still there in all its glory. The company as a whole is Powys Steel Fabrications.

Try also “Steam Technology”, based in Kent.

There is also a preserved railway in the Sharpness area, with extensive workshops that might take on such work but I say might very adviseably because its volunteers have their hands full with their own assets.

Thanks for getting back to me.  Indeed, the website is still up and going.  It was me that stalled earlier this year, but I should have let him start, when he was offering to.

I have tried a few companies today, and the only one (so far) that was willing to make one is estimating a 2-2 1/2yr lead time..  I will keep trying, but there certainly seems to be a shortage of makers.  The amount of paperwork does not help, I suppose..

I will try those companies that you have suggested, but I suppose I am hoping that Chris (Berwyn) will contact me in the meantime.
