I also read that our 43.3P FIT is much less than that paid in Germany,Spain and Italy, yet our government thinks it is too generous.

It is far too generous when it only costs about 5p/kWh to generate it in a nuclear power station which also generates zero carbon emmissions.

      Russell.

Maybe so, Russell, but not everyone has the space to install a nuclear power station …………

I was a bit surprised by a recent news item

The Scottish government have been going nuts on wind stuff over the last 5 years and it seems to be reaping big benefits already

The Scottish government said that, assuming gross consumption in 2011 was similar to 2010, about 35% of Scotland's electricity needs came from renewables in 2011, beating its interim target of 31%.

          **LINK**

100% by 2020 is the target

So by 2020 the price of oil and gas will be virtually irrelevant as far as power consumption in Scotland is concerned, which takes a bit of getting your head around

With made to measure high efficiency panels i can get a tad over 4kw.

With the Gov FIT etc its trying to be sold to me as an investment which will be self funding and pay for itself in 7 years.

After that period promoted as a top up to our income.

Also believe the FIT is being lowered in August so any installs need doing in July to maximise the Gov FIT.

Needless to say i am sceptical.

……………………………..Then there is the house sales problem only 50% of your potential buyers may see them as an asset the others will see them as a hideous growth……………………………….

The tariff is assigned to the property so any prospective buyer would have years of FIT worth many thousands of pounds without any capital outlay. Why would that be a disincentive to buy?  And if I could get interest from 50% of prospective buyers I would be grateful.

                  confusedly yours

In the case of a private dwelling the feed in tariff can be taken with you when you move – or be transfered ('sold' to the buyer by way of sale price adjustment). It belongs to you – not the house. However, even if you decide to take the FIT with you, the new occupant will benefit from free electricity whilst it is being generated during the day and, I believe, the export tariff, as tthat belongs to the house.

                      Hi Diane,

I think that you are mistaken there, It is the installation that is granted the FIT not an individual person. The following advice is from an Approved Installer's web site:

"FIT eligibility remains with the installation, even if the ownership of the home or generating technology changes. Therefore the technology must have been eligible before you move in, even if it is not registered yet."

                      and:

"Ownership of the technology is linked to the site and, therefore, in the case where a building or homeownership changes, the ownership of the technology would also transfer to the new owner."

                      Regards

                      Terry

Good link there Terry, this has confirmed my suspicions

Payback in 10 years at best and as we all know with British weather theres not much daylight. Prices are high on that site knock around 40% off for high efficiency, they have plumeted recently.

Weve had our 1.5kw solar panels installed for a year now, we also have solar hot water, so our energy bills are negligent, We pay 22c / Kw for incoming supply and recieve 44c for any outgoing power to the grid. We have just received a check back for $450, from our supplier in rebate. Which is on a 25 year contract. Regarding the self cleaning, what they mean is that due to angle of installation the dust isnt supposed to settle. Bouts wind and of rain does keep them clean so no need to worry about cleaning them.

Just had the friendly energy advisor round.

4kw Canadian system generating in excess of 10kw per day and of course depreciating over 25 year time frame. Average figure 3.77kw per day since these generate in cloudy conditions like recently.

Costed in for V power as well which i am not fond of, i need the full whack of voltage from grid to run a 7.5kw inverter, lesser voltage means more current draw and subsequent tripping of RCCD etc.

Incidentally self cleaning like Rainguard on binos etc.

Since were currently on an old meter and use 4kw a day, 6 kw is put back to energy company but they only pay 50% of the 10kw.

With me now, that means energy co is gaining 1kw per day based on 50%. Heres the biggy since our meter would actually run in reverse until changed over in next 5 years, its anticipated it would go backwards around 6kw per day. At review we would either have a credit or a cheque as a bonus.

Worst case no electric bills £720 pa plus FIT index linked £800 p/a.

The install is to me though i can transfer it.

                            Am i missing something?
