Cheers Len, and Les I don't think you can get dividing plates for that one plus the Vertex one should be better quality I hope.

Has the Vertex rt got any slots in the base for securing ?

            Evening Trebor,

You're not a sweet factory are you?

I'm right in the middle of making some double bow windsor chairs at the moment (as you are interested I've attached an image) so the myford lathe is out of action for a while.

As soon as it is convenient I will set the Rotary Table/Angle Plate up and post some images for you.

It could be as early as next week.

            Len. P.

P.S. I've had to post this response in IE as I can't get the reply box to appear on Firefox, has anybody any ideas?

You still sat admiring those chairs ?

              Hi

Just raising this topic again as I'm doing some research before buying an RT. My initial work is to put radius's on parts rather than chucking work, though I can see I might want that capability in the future.

All the RTs of 100mm size I've found so far have MT centres whereas I'm thinking a parallel bore where I could drop in various size mandrels for the work would be better. Or does one use some kind of MT adaptor that will hold these mandrels? What are the pros/cons of MT vs straight bore? Does anyone know a supplier of an RT with straight bore?

I made a "thimble" out of mild steel with an external taper to match MT2 and an internal parallel bore. I have a range of mandrels which just drop in. Works for me.

                  Trev,

The table on my BCA has a plain bore [set slightly below the table surface]; and a Pin [with a female centre, and a knurled grip] that's very slightly tapered … used for aligning the table under the cutter.

I have made a set of "Top Hat" inserts with various diameter pins, that are a sliding fit in the bore, for doing the sort of work that you describe … These are easily removed with a small button-magnet.

Roger's solution seems to bring the MT2 taper to the same conclusion.

28.jpgI wanted a small rotary table and decided to have a go at making one for myself. It is now nearly complete, I have just got the division plates to make. Here is a photo of it, if you are interested in how I have done it you can find a build log on the Madmodder website in the "Projects" section.
