I can see no reason why it would not be suitable Bob although Easi Flo 55 is possibly more common in our type of work. The fact that it builds up a small fillet may be useful, depending on what it is used on.

While Easi-Fly flux is suitable for many smaller jobs, if prolonged heating is involved the Tenacity 5 dous not become spent as quickly.

Thanks for that Brian. I just have been given FREE smiley easy flo 40 so I thought I would use that.

            Thanks

That's certainly the best way to get your hands on it Bob.

Many years ago, the aerospace company that I worked for relocated to China and Everything in the store had to be sent to China IF it was in the original, traceable packaging complete with the appropriate certificates.

There was a largeish batch of Easi-Flo No 2 which we were not allowed to use because it contained cadmium and no one would take the responsibility to scrap it because of the value on the companies books. Come the move to China the storeman had to get rid of it and, knowing of my M.E. activities asked me if I wanted it! I nearly had a fit and said yes, of course I will take it off your hands. It's done me 2 boilers and a small ebay sale up to no and there is still a bit left.

I suspect that this is probably silverflo40, in which case you will need to use tenacity flux as the brazing temperature is around the 700deg mark, and as already stated easyflo flux will rapidly become exhausted.

                      Hi Simon

things like the bottom of the lubricator (body to stand), engine cylinder ,engine frame etc. Can I ask did you make your gears or buy the Meccano ones.

                      Thanks

                      Bob

I bought gears online. You need fewer gears for the jackshaft version, but mine was the third one made, before Andrew had designed it. I'm a bit anxious about soldering brass parts with higher temperature silver solder. It isn't all that difficult to melt brass. Perhaps you could solder a couple of bits of scrap brass with the 40% first to see if it can be done OK. Soldering the brass angle to the boiler would make me nervous, for example. If it wasn't bed time I would go out and test 40% on brass myself. You might be fine but really, old Easyflow or at least 55% is the stuff for these small jobs. Good luck.
