I've determined that a Sieg SX2.7 mill would be just about perfect for me, if a little pricey. Axminster tools are selling it, (at a price!) but I can't find another seller in the UK. I saw mention of Arc Eurotrade possibly stocking it, but it seems that's a possible maybe at the moment. Does anyone know of another UK stockist?

ARC had some in when i was looking for a machine a few weeks back. They had all been assigned to buyers though. Several options, longer beds and brushed/brushless motors with various prices.

A bit more than i wanted to pay, they may have more in now? Cheaper than the Axminster prices but i didnt compare exact specs between them. Worth a call. I had 2 visits to them and enjoyed the experience.

Dave, thanks for the reply. Sorry to say that it wasn't worth the call to ARC yesterday – the person I spoke to wasn't very helpful at all and didn't seem to know anything about pre-ordering one. He could only suggest that I paid a visit to take a look at the one they have there – not terribly helpful for those that don't live 'just round the corner'.

I expect Ketan will be along later but the spec for his if available is likely to be the same as those supplied by Aussie as they have links betweeen the two companies.

Perhaps it might be worth another call and asking to speak directly to Ketan? He appears to be the one who knows what's occurring.

                      Hi Gordan,

You, Dave and the person you spoke to at ARC yesterday are all correct.

                      – We do have 1 piece each of various models of the X and SX2.7's, some of which are assigned to specific buyers, but still awaiting release to them.

                      – Certain machines are going through our own tests.

                      – We are waiting for certain information to be released to us from the factory which we need to check.

                      – Certain specifications published by SIEG need to be verified by us.

For various reasons, I am unable to elaborate on the details. It will be another two to three weeks before I can be completely sure about the above. As you say, you were invited to come and visit, but I do understand that this may be difficult for you.

Generally, we do not do special or advanced pre-orders. The machines which are assigned are to persons who have seen the model on-site, or at a competitor. Release to them will take place in the near future after I have finished dealing with the above.

The stock and specifications we have are limited. I will only know for sure what is available for release after about three weeks. Once sold, new stock will be available around mid-September.

                      Ketan at ARC.

OK, thanks for your reply Ketan. If I'm travelling in the Leicester direction over the next few weeks, I'll call in and take a look.

Any more news if you will be adding the sx2.7 to your inventory, Ketan? I was looking at mills in the local Axminster yesterday and, while they didn't have one in the showroom, it was in their Engineering Workshop brochure.

On paper, it ticks all but one of my boxes. Longitudinal travel hits the button at 395mm, the one thing theirs doesn't have is an R8 spindle. If you go ahead, are you likely to offer that option? MT3 really is a bit antique for a mill spindle nowadays. The only thing that can be said in its favour is that it's larger than MT2.

Mike – no doubt Ketan will be along soon to expand further, but ARC are planning to stock the SX2.7 in due course. Probably available September/October. R8 spindle is what I have my name down for, as it seems to make more sense to me. I've looked at many similar sized milling machines and so few seem to offer the R8 option – don't know why though.

It does have the advantage of making teh tooling usable on the lathe as well as the mill. I don't do it that often but have used boring head, flycutter and collet chuck in the lathe which I could not have done with R8.

Take a look at todays posts on the SX3 thread for an update from kETAN
