I’ve obviously noticed that you can lose more than a couple of mm of Z on a mill because of an overly long Jacobs or B taper on a drill chuck arbor. I noticed the other day that there is a JT2s, where the s is apparently for “short”. I also read that a JT2s will happily sit inside a standard JT2 socket on most chuck bodies? Anyone care to elaborate? Are there any other “short” tapers that work.

I use the (CNC) lathe to make custom (short) tapers. I made a 16 mm to B16 holder that fits an ER32 collet where the drill chuck rests against the collet.

I could make a MK2 ER32 holder that probably is 10 mm shorter than the one I am using now. Never thought of it when I had a small mill that had really benefit from that.

I’ve just seen this, and actually ordered the C20 version a couple of days ago.
