Can anyone recommend an er11 collet chuck and collets that does not cost a huge amount ? It would be something i would rarely use, so do not want to spend too much.

            For a lathe or mill?

If the chuck involves an MT fitting, I would stronly advise against baang good. Some of the MT s are not quite the right taper. How do I know? I’ve got one.

Also read the comments on xynudu’s ‘hilda’ u-toob video. It would appear that it is not an uncommon occurence. Customer service also gets a large knock in those comments. I concur that their customer service is totally rank – even non-existent.

              Hi Ronan,

I wanted some ER11 collets and a holder for the occasional small size drill work and went direct to China and purchased a complete set of collets from 1mm through to 7mm in 1/2mm steps plus a holder with a 10mm parallel shank and 5 spare collet closing nuts all for less than £20 delivered by air mail within 7 working days, and the quality is well acceptable.

I can try to look up the vendor and pass it on to you if you are interested.

              Mike

Thanks all. Its for a mill, r8 taper, but a collet chuck that fits into a r8 collet would be fine, its just for drilling the occasional small hole. I would rather buy in the Uk or europe, its just quicker.

I don't use ER11 collets Ronan – but it seems to me that you could fit one of these into an R8 16mm collet – would that suit your needs?

                      You could try shop-apt.co.uk ,

I have bought ER collet chucks from them and they are good quality at reasonable prices

If you want to go that route, I have bought ER collet chucks from AIM Tools in the UK before now. This is their latest offering at prices which appear very reasonable to me. Quick dispatch and delivery. They also trade on eBay:

I you just wish to hold drills in the milling machine, why don't you buy a drill chuck on an R8 taper?

Small ER collet on a long shaft will reach into places a drill chuck or larger ER collet won't especially if you get the ones from ARC with the smaller diameter "mini nut" Will also hold milling cutters safely.

0.3-4mm drill chuck about 22mm dia

0.5-7mm ER11 chuck with mini nut 16mm dia

Most of the chucks i have seen don't grip drills under about 3mm. I also like collets, they grip better and do not mark up the shank of the drill bit .

I purchased my ER11 collet chuck and collets from CTC. They are based in China but I believe they have European warehousing. The quality was fine for my needs.

I also have a small, 0.2-3mm, drill chuck from RC in Luxembourg which I have used down to 0.2mm.
