I bought a Warco WM180 many months ago now and, as I am told is often the case, the dedicated QCTP was not available. I still haven't been able to get one and I am struggling to find a suitable alternative which is probably down to my inexperience as much as anything else. Could I please have recommendations for a QCTP from alternative suppliers? I believe a (major?) obstacle is the protrusion into which the post itself threads requiring that the base be drilled out further; I am far from sure I have the option of doing that myself! Thanks in advance.

Could you turn down and thread the post that comes with the toolpost to fit your lathe (or even make a new one), leaving the lathe unaltered?

I'm afraid I cannot recommend any particular toolposts (other than avoid the very cheap aluminium ones – I wish I had avoided them), but if you look on Arc Euro Trade's website the specifications of each of the ones they sell are shown in full, so you could work out the size you want from there.

Phillip, I have a QCTP from Arc which I am very happy with. Model 000

Its fitted on my SC4 which as an M12 threaded hole in the compound slide but an M10 clearance hole in the tool post and M10 nut. I took an M12 bolt which fits the lathe and turned it down and re threaded for the QCTP end.

Maybe you can modify a bolt in a similar way for your setup.

Gentlemen, many thanks for the replies – I think the problem with anything other than the Warco one is not the post / stud itself as such but is rather the way it mounts to the compound slide. The compound slide on the WM180 hasn't a flat surface but rather the point where the stud threads is raised up and is rather a structural 15mm high x 20mm diameter boss / lump through which the stud passes. It seems to me that there are two choices; either remove the lump and find a new way to secure the stud to the compound slide or make a matching recess in the base of a non Warco QCTP. The first way would, for me, probably render the compound slide unusable and the second is a problem because the body of any quality steel QCTP is almost going to be too hard to machine / be impervious to my equipment. The question is really has anyone done either option or have a better idea than I of a third? In addition which of the numerous QCTPs that are available would be most suitable provided the problem of how to mount it were to be overcome?

I have the WM250V-F & I machined off the boss from the compound slide & made a new tool post stud when I replaced the original 4 way tool post with a Bison size '0' (iirc ) QCTP, I still have the original 4 way TP so if I ever decide to utilise it again then I would need to machine up a dummy bush to fit the recess. I re-drilled the new stud for an anti rotation pin & to date I have had no bother with it.

                George.
