With BST it's dark in the mornings. With GMT it's dark in the evenings. Whats the point of mucking about with the clocks when you're still travelling in the dark at one time of the day or another.

All that is required to let children travel in daylight is for them to travel at an appropriate time of day.

I'm sure, given a vote, all teenagers would vote for having another hour in bed.

Wasn't there an experiment with double summertime for one year back in the 'seventies? I seem to associate it with Harold Wilson.

At one time our software testing did not include testing the change and one year it didn't change. panic update. Next year it changed by two hours because both the middleware and operating system levels written by different teams took care of it. panic update.surprise Now we test it to death.

Did you realise more than half the world don't make the changes so when the Chinese are making your product they need to be told what it is all about. I have about 24 line items in my specs to explain the precautions necessary eg to avoid missing alarm times set in the 'missing' hour. Also the UK make the actual change at a different time from mainland EU.

Not for a decade or more actually IIRC.

For the record– This is a general comment rather than to a particular individual, but it demonstrates my concerns

My name has been carried down in the quotes & parts edited which suggests that I have said something different to what I actually said

I do wish that would not happen when quoting on the forum

If you are going to use my name then please include the correctly quoted text

            thankyou

Sam, apologies if I may have misunderstood, I was mainly trying to minimise the amount of text in my comment. I did not change the sentence upon which I was commenting. It's correct that the UK and EU have changed the clocks on the same day for many years – are you saying something different from that?

Lot's of luck with that one, Sam. Quote editing in any forum is abysmal and this isn't any better than average. Many people here don't edit their quotes at all. They will even happily quote half a dozen pictures followed by a one-liner just to respond to the one liner …. followed by the next responder ….. followed by ….

                  John,

Forgive me for intruding, but … I think you will find that you were actually quoting Bazyle, not Sam.

Which, in fairness, is what the quote markers actually do say. The Sam reference is an extraneous line that wasn't removed in the editing.

(Now someone will point to this as an excuse for not editing quotes sad )

                      .

Quite so … The really interesting thing being that Sam's re-quote of John's post shows the side-line [indicating where all of Sam's text was deleted] … but John's does not.

I did not say it either way- That is the issue I was trying to get over- It just looks as though I commented on that point when I did not

But let's move on- Life has more interesting things to discuss smile

Like how to get the end of my broken centre drill out of my pump part which I have spent 6 hours making & is now on hold as I cannot drill the last hole –Grrrrrrrr

Another thing to do when it's hour-change time is to turn all stopcocks off and on to ensure that they remain operational. It's no joke to find that a stopcock can't be closed when you need to turn the water off for an emergency or plumbing modification. Just turn them off and on twice a year helps to prevent them seizing up.

The hour-change is simply a good reminder.
