Hi, I'm thinking ahead for the types of paint and finishes for my 2 in scale traction engine. Can someone tell me if I should use enamel or polyurethane synthetic on the Boiler and hornplates, and should it be full gloss, semi gloss or satin.

      Thanks

      Garry

Boiler (exposed bits of it) and hornplates are usually done in a heat resistant matt or satin black with possibly the upper part of the hornplates in a colour to match the rest of the engine.

Thanks for reply's. I already have that book. And very good it is. Recommend it to everybody who is painting their models. Jason, quite surprised that the parts you mentioned are not glossy. Is a full gloss just for show case models.

If you use bbq paint, when it's dry you can buff it up. I think it has graphite in it.

On my Marshall I used Blackfriar Black Matt Heat resisting paint on Smoke Box, Lower Horn Plates, Chimney, Throat plate.

Johnstone's Professional Gloss on Boiler, Upper Horn plates, Wheels etc.

Garry did you actually mean to say boiler or are you asking about the cleading sheets which most people tend to do gloss but a satin can look good too.

As said the lower hornplates, throatplate and backhead are usually matt black. BBQ or Stove paint.
