I am scrapping out some old tower PCs. I shall keep the old wrap round covers as a useful source of sheet steel. Maybe keep at least one of the power supplies as they are useful when repurposed (Check the caps before switching on!).

Is there anything else that may be useful? Oh cooling fans come to mind, apart from these items I can’t think of anything else that could be usefully salvaged.

      Andrew.

The memory and older ceramic cased CPUs have some scrap value. Ceramic CPUs with gold plated pins and metallic “cap” (even underneath) are worth around £150/kg due to the high gold price at the moment. Thats’s about £5 per CPU. Unless you have a lot, just put them on ebay as a lot of “CPUs and memory for gold recovery” you may be pleasently surprised. If you have a lot go straight to a refiner. I use AWA refining.

Hard drive magnets are useful for picking nails up of floor and out of fire ash if you burn some types of wood.

If there are any large heat sinks, I made one of those hot air circulating fans for log stoves with one and a semiconductor hot/cold pad etc.

I think they can be repurposed as a network attached server (NAS). When set up they can be used as your own personal cloud server.

Hi, if the hard drives are ok, there are various caddies/ docking stations they could be used with, e.g. http://Amazon

                Regards Nick.

                  Thanks everyone,

All your suggestions are very interesting, I had no idea that they could be so useful!

                  Andrew.
