        Sorry Gents,

Completely off topic I know but next week I'm bringing my daughter over to start her four year course at Farnham University.

We're flying to Southampton and as far as i can tell the best way is to travel by train , it seems up to Woking and then back down to Farnham. (I appreciate that hiring a car maybe better but as the worlds worst flier after two engine fires and a near crash, if I survive the landing driving's out of the question)!

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

(Apparently there are 51 pubs around the University but my wife has forbidden me from attempting to visit them all in the three days we're there crying  )

        Paul

Tell her she should have gone to Plymouth – then you could sail there. devil

There is a Farnham ME club I think.

Uni is the other side of town to the station, so taxi needed, although Farnham is not a big town , wouldn't want to walk it.

Paul: If you mean Farnham in Surrey, then your travel plans are correct. If you need anymore info, ask away. I live there. I’m not sure where the 51 pubs are though.

“I’m not sure where the 51 pubs are though.” – in nextdoor Aldershot? – there must have been many there for the squaddies.

This really is getting off topic, but by the time you've got a taxi from the airport to the railway station, two train tickets and another taxi in Farnham, why not just get a taxi all the way. This guy quotes £60. As you will no doubt have a ton of luggage, the train could be a nightmare, and the taxi driver will be able to tell you where all the 51 pubs are

As long as the mods don't mind (and of course the forum members) I think this sort of post – even if of topic – is OK. Nothing wrong with a bit of aside chit-chat in the club house right? Duncans reply sounds like it could be very helpful to Paul.

PS Return by air Paul, after 51 pubs you'll be to bladdered to care. teeth 2

Duncan is probably correct, a few years ago on my return to UK I planned to travel from RAF Brize Norton to Welwyn Garden City which would have involved taxi, train, train, and taxi. I can't remember the cost but with me and two daughters and loads of luggage the £125 taxi fare direct seemed cheap.

                        Guys,

Thank you all very much for the replies. Duncan that sounds like an excellent idea, to be honest even if it costs a few extra quid it'll be worth it. After all four years at Uni is going to do enough damage to my pension plans wink

Matt, the 51 pubs count came from the Uni, mind you they are creative arts, not mathematics!

Not off topic Paul, would fit nicely in "The Tea Room"
