I had originally come to this forum to ask if anybody had completed one of these and had managed to get it running. To date nobody seems to have posted a video anywhere. So here’s my first run.

It took a few attempts to get it to run and as the boiler isn’t certified yet (its been pressure tested) I wasn’t going to go above 30psi. There’s a bit of a knock that needs sorting and the burner isn’t working as well as it should but its a start.

Well done Pete, I’m sure you will have that knock chased down in no time.

                Thanks Jason, Brian, Norm

Still a bit of a way to go yet before its capable of pulling anything like a load. 80/20 comes to mind with these things, are they ever ‘finished’?

Brian, I like that Betty of yours nice job, looking very clean and tidy. Was that recently built from scratch?

                Thanks again

Its gas fired. Easier and cleaner especially at this stage, it can be run, allowed to cool and be stripped down really quickly, and with the minimum of mess. I had the boiler out twice yesterday and its coming out again today.

I've had it running for extended periods on rollers today.

The noise is the uneven rollers as they are just stock 19mm ally rod and have not been turned true. You can see the loco bouncing around, it does help to exercise the suspension. Later in the video I lift the wheels off the rollers and you'll see how smooth and quiet it runs.

7.5mins is the limit of my camera memory, I did three runs today, all exceeding 12 mins without any major problems. Now I just need the club track finished……

Looks and sounds the part Pete

Cant wait to see it running on a track.

Ive not been able to do anything on mine recently as I just dont seem to get time these days.

Mind you the cold weather here is a bit of a put of as well.

Will have to convince the Mrs to let me put my lathe etc in one of the spare bedrooms lol

Keep the Pics going cos they are a great reference

                          Norm

Sorry to hear progress has been delayed for variuos reasons. We've been through our summer so it been quite plesant work conditions us. Although PeteH in Oz has be plagued by too much nice weather and temps of 40deg plus.

I'm just off to the track for the working party to install the main straight, now its back from the galvanizers. That's going to delay my next test session, adhesion and drawbar pull. Getting my priorities right that can wait until tommorrow. Hopefully there will be a video…………….

                          regards

                          Pete
