Hi all,

 

My name’s Matt, I’m a mechanical engineer in Sydney – in my 13th year of my career and obsessed with machining and building stuff.

In the last couple of years I have greatly expanded my shed – I acquired a really good condition Myford ML7 from a colleague for the grand sum of 2 nice bottles of wine (I was doing him a favour apparently!!!!), and recently picked up what I believe to be a hybrid of a Dore Westbury and another type of hobby mill based on square solid and rectangular solid bar. I’m currently in the middle of disassembling the mill, to redesign the quill to accept ER25 collets – it uses a very old and very hard to find chuck setup that I don’t really like.

The mill itself I acquired from a toolmaker’s deceased estate. It was very well built!

Hi Welcome to the forum. Plenty of info on many subjects available here.  If you cannot find what you want by searching just ask.  Good luck with the mods.

There will be many on here who know the Dore Westbury, and even more familiar with the Myford lathes.

So if you need advice, just ask
