New Myford Bearings – what work is required?

Hi All. If you purchase some new replacement phosphor bronze bearings and hardened spindle for an ML7 do they require any work or are they essentially "plug and play" apart from adjusting the shims? Do they need scraping in and how to you measure the appropriate height for the required shims?
