I have recently inherited about 50 pre-war Model Engineer magazines. They are volume 77 to 80.

Dated from 1937 up until 1940

For their age they are in good condition, rusty staples and a bit scuffed around the edges.

Would anyone like them, because I would hate for them to go to land-fill.

They are in Romford for collection, or I can post if the recipient pays postage.

Can you try your local model engineering clubs? Or maybe someone on here going past your area could move them to a club in a different area. Always nice for clubs to be able to have a library of old ME in case someone needs to refer to old loco designs for maintenance.

The Gamage’s lathe in your picture is one of the many RandA clones. I wonder if someone responding to the Drummond advert ended up using it to help the war effort. Little did they know.

Welcome to the forum. My collection doesn’t go back quite that far so I would be glad to have them ! Give me an idea of weight and see what postage would be or if to expensive I could collect them.  Noel.

I am away from the property at the moment. I will weigh the collection and let you all know when I return next week.

Okay, further to my last post, I have weighed the old Model Engineer magazines. The fifty magazines come to just over 4kg.

There just over fifty Model Engineer magazines. The earliest is from October 1937 and the latest is March 1940.

Incidentally, Issue number 1972 describes a 30cc side valve petrol engine as most suitable for powering a model ship with a length of six foot…

Looking at Royal Mail parcel post, they offer a medium parcel delivery of up to 5kg for £8.05.

If someone will pay that postage, or they come and collect, then they can have these extrordinary vintage magazines.

I live near Ipswich and travel to Romford every week and can arrange a pick-up from there instead.

Interesting how relatively cheap Gamages the lathe is, compared to the pressure gauge, only very roughly 20ish times more
