      the oil was drained, fresh oil added and the lathe was added to the stock for sale.

      Not sure how they did that. They are open gears. One can take off the lid and squirt oil in, but it will run out of the bottom of the lathe.wink 2

        I have read John's article in the Raglan entry in http://www.lathes.co.uk literature again just now, funny how you mis-remember things. To make the correction, what he did say was that the gearbox was given a good wash out following the bedding in treatment and the gears were re-oiled.

        I stand corrected!!
