      Hello,

I am thinking of buying a Dickson type toolpost for my S7 and, after reading some of the horror stories of the ones sold by other companies wonder if the one sold by Myford is of good quality or are there any known issues.

      Other recomendations welcomed.

      Reg

I bought one from RDG which is part of the same group. It replaced my Dickson one which I sold with my Boxford lathe. 🤔 I fitted it to my new Chester lathe.

It does not have the same feel to it, and although I have not had a problem yet, I feel the locking mechanism is not positive and I am always having a feel at the handle to check it's still tight.

If you have the money look for and pay for an original manufactured one.

            NZreg,

            I'm still looking for an original 10 + years….hahaha…..that's at a fair price….£150+ is ok….

had a wanted add running for 2 years……I always find em to late in the add's…… got guzzumped once…..

even thought about buying another lathe for the tool post then selling it on at 1 time……..!!!!!!!!!!

just bought the material to make my own……

did have look at ebay etc……..for a new copy…

beleive all now made in India with various problems and quality's…..are RDG's is made there…..?????

not sure if the overpriced Swiss type are available that small ??????

good luck, if ur in N.Zealand u may do better than here…….

supply and demand I guess……..I would have been happy to buy a BRIT made copy at double the price or more……

If you you look in my album you will see my quick change toolpost. It is easy to make as there are no dovetails to cut.The tool is a dream to use and was made to fit my Myford S7.The only drawback is that the tool cartridges have to be packed to height, but once done especialy with tipped tools it dosen't need doing again.I was frustrated with my Dickson type and this is much faster to use,it can be made to fit most lathes.

Try Rotagrip for the 'genuine' article. Not sure if they are made in the UK or the far east?
