My name is Dennis Jones and I build 1/6th scale military vehicles. I have been given a task of restoring a 1/6th scale model of a Churchill Mk iV tank with SBG bridge by the Bovington Tank Museum. The model was built in 1951 by a Mr A T Tamplin. I have copies of photos that appeared in the Model Engineer Magazine Vol 108 No 2623 dated Thurs 30th Aug 1951. Apparently it opened the ME Exhibition that year. There is also a photo from 1954 where it shows it being demonstrated at a Model Show in Salisbury. I realise it is a long time ago but if anybody out there has any more details of this model it would be very gratefully received. I have actually managed to get the tank working.

      Dennis.

          Hello Dennis,

As you have the ME photos already, I can't help further, but I'd be keen to see pictures of the tank as it is today.

Diane might be interested in publishing an 'update' on the tank in ME.

The salisbury picture is in no 2774 p110

There is another picture at no 2689 p727

It gets a mention in 2601 p423 but no piccy

no 2622 p268, a mention but no picture

no 2623 p274 has a good picture with the builder

His main "things" in ME seem to be yachts/boats and radio control systems, the tank may have been a one-off

              Dennis,

There was an interesting domestic disturbance reported

… May be worth investigating some newspapers.

Hi All, Thanks for the info so far.

Ady, I have copies of 2774 & 2623 but not the others, I note your comment about his main interests, the radio control in those days was very primative and un-reliable, this probably accounts for the destruction caused to the living room in the Milwaukee Journal, the link supplied by Michael.

Michael, Thanks for that link, how on earth did you rember that ?

Neil & Others, If you go to :- http://www.armortek.co.uk website click on "Forums" (top right corner) then scroll down to "Armortek Owners" then down to "Bovington Churchill Tank Project" you will see latest photos of the tank plus 3 videos of the motors moving and also of it running outside. I am now waiting for the Curator of the Museum to come back to me to see where we go from here. Neil, thanks once again for your help and I would be interested in doing an article.

                Dennis.

Thanks for the images Ady. I have emailed Chichester ME and Boat Clubs to see if any records exist. Thanks again Michael.

                      Dennis.
