Machining ali

I have a Warco VMC mill with plenty of endmills.

I need to reduce a 1.1/2" length of 1/4" x 1/2" thick ali down to 3/4".

How big a cut can I take and about what speed?

Saw most of it off and then one pass to clean up the edge, its only 1/4×1/2 so can be sawn in a few secs

 

If you prefer making swarf them hold it at the side of the vice so it is 1/4" high, 1/2" front to back. Use the side of a reasonable dia cutter and take 1/8" off at a time. speed will depend on cutter dia and type but fast as the machine will allow.

That is just what I did only the few seconds turned into a few minutes – probably due to age!

Anyway the job is done and it is now in the mill to have the slot milled.
