      Hi all,

Is anyone aware of a supplier of the ‘slim’ AXA 250-101M tool holders that Arceurotrade.co.uk used to sell…?

The 250-101 holders are easy to find, but not the 101M version.

Alternatively…are these tool holders hardened..? Could I just mill down a 101 holder to the same dimensions of a 101M…(without investing in a new carbide cutter)?

      Thanks.

AXA toolholders are mostly very hard, but can be machined with a decent carbide bit which however you have a considerable risk of spoiling. If you merely want to reduce the base thickness, you might consider an angle grinder and thin parting disk. There are cheap universal stands for 4-5 inch grinders that allow a clean(ish) cut to be made.

I have opened up the slots and shortened several quality AXA tool holders without any trouble using carbide in the mill. Just make sure to use the correct feeds and speeds. I used oil coolant/lubricant.

            Thanks, both.
