Just noticed that Lidl are having a big tool special starting on the 7th December – two double pages in the catalogue. Various items including a workshop vac at under £40.

If anybody might be interested there were 16mm keyless chucks, on a 2MT taper, selling on TEMU for £7.58 including postage this week. These are exactly same items that retail at up to three-times the price on other sites. I have, myself, paid a lot more for this type of chuck in the past and if I was not already fully equipped I would be ordering a couple. It’s worth checking out if they still available at this price.

I am of the opinion that you get what you pay for.

No doubt that some makes of chucks and many other tools can be very good quality to almost scrap ‘quality’ Variable quality from many makers in far eastern countries. Just means “buyer beware.” Even well respected big names sub out their goods to far eastern manufacturers and in my opinion, risk their reputations.

Some of my cheap tools have proved to be excellent.

One no name cheap digital caliper isn’t too reliable but the expensive Mitutoyo one is very good.

I have 2 large drill chucks, one by a very famous name that holds quite small no. size drills. It is ‘ beaten’ by the CVA one which holds much smaller ones down to, I think, no.51.

Bought a pair of £3.99 digital calipers earlier today, being made of some type of plastic they aren’t really any good for measuring with any accuracy but can be drilled and cut easily enough. I intend to fit one to my lathe tailstock so give a semi accurate depth gauge.IMG_3008
