i got this in a box of o&s at a car boot. It was intended for a large machine but the shank has been ground down to fit a smaller one. Its labelled Miller 1/KF6cnc. Can anyone give advice on how it is adjusted and used, please?

It looks as though the whole head can swivel a little either side of centre on the spindle which has 2 pin holes at each end. does this mean you need to get c pin spannersat each end to loosenit? Also -at the end remote from  the camera there is a threaded hole in the centre—-whats this for? Finally, it looks as though the spindles carrying the knurls can swivel to adjust the knurl diameter but how do you unlock these? Everything seems done up tightly and I am reluctant to apply much force without knowing what I am doing.

Mega spendy tool, I use one all the while but not quite the same model.

Lock screw in the end loosens the head so you can adjust for diameter. Head on mine angles by two push/ pull screws or just alter the toolpost hight.

Could that be one of the push / pull screws to the right of the Q ? and one lower down.

You don't need hardy any pressure on these, they are not like normal knurling tools as they cut, not deform. You also need to run far faster then normal and plenty of coolany as you need to was the chips away or it rolls them into the next cut.

I do some 3 metre stainless bars for a customer, 2" diameter and do 1.5 metres then tun over and do the other 1.5 metres. No centres used, just the travelling steady, 450 revs, fast feed and jobs a good un.

I also have a single wheel one for doing straigt knurls, yours will only do diamond knurl, and this is the type of job it will do.

Still looking for a picture of the diamond knurl

If you click the link to the video below the pic on this page it first shows a straight knurl and then the diamond like yours and briefly shows the adjustment.

Thanks for the replies. The video is impressive—-but it looks likea later model. I have put on a photo of the other side. When the head swivels it can be fixed in the chosen positionby the two jacking screws which are just visible. The large knurled knob has graduations which I assume tell you the distance apart of the 2 knurl wheels. However, I still don't know how to unlock both head and knurl spindles (sorry if I'm just being dumb). The threaded hole I mentioned before is between the two holes in the spindle at the lower part of head——where it looks as though you need a 2 pin spanner. Ray

Have a look at the following url – http://industrieprodukte.swarovskioptik.com/en/gb2_infos-news-information – it has some books that might help.

It looks as though they refer to a later model of tool than you have but there looks to be enough similarities to yours for you to work out what bit does what. I think it also shows how to change the wheels. The nuts for the pin spanner are the retainers for the swivel pin for the head by the look of it.

                    Keith,

Thanks. The website gives good pictures of how the tool is constructed. I'll have to make a pair of spanners to loosen the head up,
