Noticed this combination machine in the for sale section yesterday

I don't have any connection with the seller by the way, but I was intrigued enough to dig around on the lathes website and found this Adcock and Shipley page:

I hope this finds a buyer – it won't be me unfortunately, but with so few having been made it needs to find a home.

I think he's hoping.

Scrapped one of these about 4 / 5 years ago.

Even offered it for free if anyone wanted it but no one did so it got scrapped.

They were a good idea for what they were intended, shipboard / submarines etc but they take an inordinate amount of room up for very little capability.

At first glance they seem the answer to every Model Engineers prayer but at the size and weight they are a non starter once the green paint fever has worn off.

After that you move onto serious hobby user / light industrial and the short comings become even greater.

This is one of those machines that would be best in a museum as a look at what was but not as a day to day working machine.

The New Zealand navy probably got anything up to four of these with the Leander Class frigates that they got second hand from the RN, along with the 9 tons of extra paint that got chipped off before the last one went into service (probably similar for the other 3) RN, if it doesn't move paint it.
